Case resolution on behalf of our courageous client—a transgender woman in her 70s

We’re grateful to share that we’ve reached a resolution in a case we handled on behalf of our courageous client—a transgender woman in her 70s who devoted over 20 years of leadership and expertise to her workplace.

Her story is one of strength and perseverance. Despite being told to “lie low” while younger male colleagues advanced, misgendered for years, and ultimately laid off just two weeks before a medically necessary surgery, she found the courage to say, enough.

After being one of only two employees let go (both over 60 years old), a federal judge determined there was enough evidence for a jury to consider whether discrimination was involved. After years of hard work, we were able to help bring this chapter to a close.

As Sarah Nichols shared with Law360: “More than ever, lawyers need to step up and protect transgender rights, and we are grateful to have had the opportunity to do so.”

We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to our co-counsel, Maria Bourn and Anthony Tartaglio of Gomerman | Bourn & Associates, for their partnership and dedication throughout this case.

In a time when trans rights are under attack, this outcome holds great meaning—not just for our client, but for every older, transgender, or disabled worker who has ever been made to feel they don’t belong. This case is a reminder that no one is too old or too marginalized to demand respect and justice at work, and sometimes part of your legacy is standing up for yourself. We’re honored to have stood with our client, and we will continue to fight for every worker whose story deserves to be heard.
